A Humble Word about Sukkot
Video Transcript
Sukkot, also know as the feast of Tabernacles or the feast of Booths, is one of the most important feast days on our calendar. It is the final major feast lasting eight days.
And the Lord spoke to Moses saying, “Speak to the people of Israel, saying, on the fifteenth day of this seventh month and for seven days is the Feast of Booths to the Lord. On the first day shall be a holy convocation, you shall do no ordinary work. For seven days you present food offerings to the Lord. On the eight day you shall hold a holy convocation and present a food offering to the Lord. It is a solemn assembly, you shall not do any ordinary work… On the fifteenth day of the seventh month, when you have gathered in the produce of the land, you shall celebrate the feast to the Lord seven days. On the first day shall be a solemn rest and on the eight day shall be a solemn rest. And you shall take on the first day the fruit of splendid trees, branches of palm trees and boughs of leafy trees and willows of the brook and you shall rejoice before the Lord your God seven days. You shall celebrate it as a feast to the Lord for seven days in that year. It is a statute forever throughout your generations, you shall celebrate it in the seventh month. You shall dwell in booths for seven days. All native Israelites shall dwell in booths, that your generations may know that I made the people of Israel dwell in booths when I brought them out of the land of Egypt: I am the Lord your God.
– Leviticus 23:33-36;39-43
Sukkot is a time to gather and celebrate. It’s a time to remember. And it’s a time to eagerly look forward on what is to come.
We gather and celebrate because Yahweh has brought us through another year. We praise Him for His blessing of our provisions, the fruit of our land because without Him we have nothing. We praise Him for His word that shows us how to live and for our protection in this world as we wait for His Kingdom to come.
We remember. We reflect on the stories of old. Of Yahweh bringing out His people from captivity, we remember His miracles, His trials, and His victories for Israel as they dwelled in temporary shelters in the desert until they reached the promised land. And we remember through this past year of our lives Yahwehs miracles, trials and victories that we were fortunate to witness. And we reflect that like Israel in the wilderness, we too were released from the captivity of sin and death and miraculously brought into the desert place to learn the ways of our God before entering in to His promised Kingdom.
And we eagerly await the fulfilled promise of our final Sukkot feast. The glorious reign of our King of Kings and the great in-gathering of all the nations that was prophesied all throughout the scriptures.
Hear the word of the Lord, O nations, and declare it in the coastlands far away; say, He who scattered Israel will gather him, and will keep him as a shepherd keeps his flock. For the Lord has ransomed Jacob and has redeemed him from hands too strong for him. They shall come and they shall be radiant over the goodness of the Lord, over the grain, the wine and oil, and over the young of the flock and the herd, their life shall be a watered garden, and they shall languish no more. Then shall the young women rejoice in dance and the young men and the old shall be merry. I will turn their mourning into joy; I will comfort them, and give them gladness for sorrow. I will feast the soul of the priest with abundance, and My people shall be satisfied with My goodness, declares the Lord. Jeremiah 31:10-14
After this I looked and behold, a great multitude that no one could number, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, with palm branches in their hands, and crying out with a loud voice, “Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne and to the Lamb!” Revelation 7:9-10
We hope that you have a joyous time during the feast of Sukkot and we pray that Yahweh will unfold more of His will in your life and bless you with more revelation of His word.
Blessings and Shalom
